HOTEL ASSOCIATION ELECTS NEW LEADERSHIP
Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) Appoints New President & Board For 2019 – 2022
Sunway Putra Hotel, Kuala Lumpur (23 May 2019) – Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH), established in 1974 recently held its Annual General Meeting at the Sunway Putra Hotel, Kuala Lumpur and successfully elected a new Board of Directors joining the thirteen Chapter Chairpersons of the states. The new Board will lead the Association and the Hotel Industry for the next three years.
Kamaruddin bin Baharin, General Manager of Royale Chulan Kuala Lumpur, was subsequently elected as the President of MAH given firm support from the Board. He brings with him industry experience of over 32 years and is also currently the Vice Chairman of Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), Malaysia Chapter.
“The confidence given to me is a mandate for me to serve not just the Association but also the industry as a whole, and I will ensure MAH continues to be the voice of the industry, to strive toward tourism growth and industry harmony” Kamaruddin said.
Kamaruddin is joined by three Vice Presidents, namely Dato Paduka N Subramaniam of PCB Resort, Lim Choong Sean of Legoland Hotel and Michael Quay Guan Leong, Hotel Manager of Casa del Rio, Melaka. Christina Toh, representative of Dorsett Hartamas Kuala Lumpur, was re-elected as the Honorary Secretary General while Shirley Lai of Fraser Place Kuala Lumpur is now the Honorary Treasurer General of MAH.

The new Board pledges their commitment in protecting & driving the hotel industry towards Visit Malaysia Year 2020, while addressing concerns the industry raised, including setting regulations for home-sharing with the ultimate goal of harmonizing industry and its stakeholders.
The Association also released its own statistics of hotel occupancy for the first quarter of 2019, at 64.2% compared to 2018 at 65.7% recording a drop of 1.5% despite Tourism Malaysia’s recent announcement of increased tourist arrivals. MAH’s international data benchmarking partner, STR, on a different sampling level, also reported drop in occupancy for Malaysia in the first quarter of 2019, at 62.1% recording drop of 6.2% against 2018.
